The IdeaDr. Thomas Kelley and Rev. Jimmy Lewis came together with a vision that all Clayton County residents should have access to quality medical care without consideration for their ability to pay.

Our Beginnings
Their vision was realized on September 16, 2000, when the Good Shepherd Clinic opened with Dr. Kelley providing medical care to our first patient. The ministry started out providing care one evening per week, but quickly grew as the need for services continued to increase. In the years since its opening, the clinic has grown to provide free medical care to thousands of Clayton County residents.We have been able to fill this void because of the many volunteers who serve, the financial support from the community, and prayers.
Good Shepherd Clinic is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization now open three days a week, staffed primarily by medical and administrative volunteers, and has the capacity to see upwards of 4000 patient encounters per year. In addition to acute care, the clinic now primarily acts as a healthcare home to its many patients providing ongoing health care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and COPD. Access to medications and offering heath education are other services the clinic provides to its patients.
In January 2019 the Board of Directors approved an ambitious 5-year Strategic Plan with an over-arching goal to double patient capacity by 2023. The need for the Clinic's services is still ever growing, and it is our intention to offer additional access to help bridge the healthcare gap to some of the most under-served in our community.
